Although most true sport fishermen know that Los Cabos is famous for its high stakes and huge payouts in October, there are plenty of other fun and charitable events that take place throughout the year. So if a trip to Los Cabos is on your mind, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself while also giving back to very worthy charities.

For example, the 23rd Annual Stars and Stripes Golf and Fishing Tournament is happening between June 27th and the 30th this year. This outstanding event combines fishing, golfing, music, and fun and also helps to raise both funds and awareness for much-needed children’s charities. For more than the past two decades, the Stars and Stripes’ event has combined golf and fishing tournaments to raise over 29 million dollars for focused youth charities.

According to Hacienda Encantada, what makes this event different is that it combines the benefits of charitable giving with a unique lifestyle experience.

Evening events and musical performances coupled with family-oriented activities are on the menu as well as big-game sportfishing for dorado, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, swordfish, and black, blue and striped marlin and playing golf at some of the world’s most beautiful and highly rated golf courses.

This event, initially named for the children it helps, these are the real stars of the tournament and the much sought after striped marlin in the Sea of Cortez, Stars & Stripes began in 1997 as a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. To create a fundraiser, unlike any other, the original organizers wanted to include fishing, golfing, and music, so there was indeed something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Since that time, the tournament has grown to include six children’s charities based in Southern California and Mexico, including Building Baja’s Future (BBF). BBF is a world-class organization committed to helping educate bright, ambitious teenagers and help them overcome limited opportunities.

This year’s activities include a 70’s themed dance party on Thursday night, a silent auction including a wide array of exciting gifts and experiences and also a closing “white party” that will be headlined by Bret Michaels, the iconic frontman for the superstar group Poison. Although many of the children’s charities that benefit from this event are located in Southern California, Sunday is dedicated to helping the underprivileged children of Los Cabos. According to Hacienda Encantada, organizers of this event have planned a variety of opportunities including fixing and distributing bicycles, collecting and delivering clothing, household goods, toiletries and donations to local children’s charities, providing fish from the weekend’s tournament to homes and local food banks and many other activities to directly help those in need.
